WELCOME TO PERLA NEGRA!
Nestled in a rustic lobster fishing village on the shores of Espiritu Santo Bay, the Perla Negra Lodge offers an exclusive fly fishing experience in one of the most remote and untouched corners of Mexico. With only a limited number of boat permits available, we provide a rare opportunity to fish in pristine waters with minimal pressure. Whether you're an experienced angler or just getting into it, our lodge offers the perfect chance to connect with nature and enjoy some of the best fly fishing anywhere. Escape the ordinary and embark on a truly remarkable fishing adventure. The bay is waiting!

ESPIRITU SANTO BAY
Located in an extremely remote section of the Yucatan Peninsula’s eastern coastline, in the heart of the protected Sian Ka’an Biosphere. The waters surrounding ESB provide critical habitat for endangered, threatened, and migratory species and hosts one of the most diverse marine wildlife environments found in all of Mexico. It is also home to 23 known archeologic sites of the Mayan Civilization. ESB is the perfect destination for any angler seeking a true unspoiled and unpressured wilderness fly fishing experience. Considered by many as the crown jewel of the Caribbean, fly fishing anglers can expect regular encounters with Tarpon, Snook, Bonefish, Barracuda, Trigger fish, and Jacks along with a plethora of other voracious saltwater game species each day. But the real draw to ESB is its world class Permit fishery. For its comparative size and limited fishing pressure, ESB arguably produces more fly caught Permit each year than any other destination in Central America. If you’re after your first grand slam or your first Permit on a fly, it’s hard to imagine a better place to succeed than in ESB.
THE FISH
-
Permit (Palometa)
Fly fishing for Permit is a love-hate relationship for most anglers. You want to love them so bad, but you can't because Permit respect NO-ONE! No other gamefish in the world has haunted anglers like Permit have. Luckily our operation is situated in one of the most productive Permit fishing locations in the entire Caribbean.
-
Tarpon (Sabalo)
There are opportunities to get into some great Tarpon fishing in the mangrove channels feeding into the open bays and in the backwater lagoons. Occasionally in the bay, anglers will have shots at larger migratory Tarpon exceeding 100lbs. In the lagoons and bay, schools of resident Tarpon are often encountered ranging from 10-60lbs.
-
Bonefish (Macabe)
If hunting Bonefish is your bread and butter, then you won't be disappointed. There are miles of shallow flats surrounding us that are teeming with Bonefish schools. Some of the best bonefishing around can be found along the shore directly in front of camp. It's possible to catch a Bonefish within two minutes of waking up in the morning.
-
Snook (Robalo)
In our past film projects, we’ve explored countless waters throughout Central America in search of trophy Snook. The best Snook fishing that we discovered happens to be near our camp, which was one of the major factors in choosing this location for our operation. This is world class sight fishing for trophy 20+lb Snook with some specimens exceeding 30lb!
-
Cubera Snapper
If ever there was a fish that looked like it was straight out of hell, then look no further than the Cubera Snapper. These powerful gamefish are the rulers and true apex predators of these waters. Making their appearance on the flats or lagoons and often willing to take a fly, once hooked these fish will put your skills to the test!
-
Barracuda
Often overlooked and not given the credit they deserve, Barracuda are plentiful in the bay and backwaters surrounding our operation. There are some absolute monsters in these waters, many of which exceed 5 feet in length. Always have a 10wt rod rigged with a 40lb steel leader within arm’s reach. You don’t want to miss an opportunity to tangle with one of these beasts.

THE CANTINA
Perla Negra Cantina is the the most remote bar in Mexico with legendary status. This is the center of our operations and where we start and finish our days. Wake up to a great cup of coffee while going over plans for your day of fishing. At the end of the day, the front porch of the Perla Negra Bar is the perfect spot to kick your legs up and unwind, while sipping on an icy cold Margarita. Unfortunately, we can’t go into too much detail of what happens at Perla Negra and you will have to visit it to get the full experience. What we can say is that the bartender is skilled at cutting limes, has a sweet spider tattoo, and an ice box full of the coldest beers in all the Yucatan. Stay thirsty friends!
THE CABANAS
When you fish at Perla Negra you won’t be staying in a 5-star resort, there’s plenty of those places outside of Cancun. This operation is as remote as you can get on the Yucatan Peninsula! Quality fishing takes the front seat to luxury. Our operation is rustic but it ain’t too shabby. We have three cabanas with a sand flat on the front porch loaded with hundreds of hungry Bonefish. What else do you need?! It’s possible to catch a Bonefish within two minutes of waking up.
Each one of the cabanas is powered in the evenings with fans, lights and outlets for phone and small electronic charging. Each cabana has its own bathroom with a gravity fed toilet and a shower available. There are two comfortable foam padded cots in each cabana surrounded by mosquito mesh. Drinking water is also available inside the cabanas.

THE CUISINE
One thing is for certain...you will not go hungry at Perla Negra! We wanted to keep our meals as authentic as possible by taking full advantage of the bountiful resources surrounding us. With freshly caught fish and lobster (in season) harvested each day, Chef Tururu and Diana's meals are a simple and delicious blend of traditional Mexican cuisine with a hint of Mayan flair, accompanied with fresh locally grown vegetables and fruit. After a long day of fishing, you can always look forward to a scrumptious array of seafood appetizers highlighted by out of this world ceviche and guacamole. Mornings usually consist of loaded up breakfast tacos and burritos made with so much love that they’re guaranteed to kill even the worst tequila hangover.
